A Hub for Professional Growth Right in Sugarloaf
Did you know that the Sugarloaf area has a campus of the University of Georgia? Located at 2530 Sever Road, the proximity to I-85 and the flexible scheduling of the advanced degree programs means that you can work full time while attending UGA Gwinnett!
Dr. Karen Bryant, a Clinical Professor of Educational Administration and Policy, serves as the Director of UGA’s Gwinnett Campus. Dr. Bryant, along with Assistant Director Jill Rhoden, recently guided Sugarloaf CID staff on a campus tour, showcasing its diverse programs and community impact. The warmth and friendliness of each staff member we met demonstrates the commitment that the employees have to ensure students and visitors feel welcome and ready to learn. Dr. Bryant shared examples of how student feedback has led to improvements, such as adding a resource staff member to assist with registration and other administrative needs, similar to services offered at the Athens campus.
“We grow leaders on the UGA Gwinnett Campus! Our faculty, students, and alumni are incredibly talented professionals who live out the University of Georgia’s land-grant mission, ‘to teach, to serve, and to inquire into the nature of things.’ It is exciting to follow the professional success and commitment to service of UGA Gwinnett graduates as they make a positive difference in our state and throughout the world through their leadership.” – Dr. Karen Bryant

In addition to the breadth of degree programs, the campus itself is bright, stylish, and modern. The 60,000 square feet occupied by UGA Gwinnett has 21 classrooms with upgraded technology for hybrid and remote offerings. Most of these classrooms have expansive windows for beautiful natural light to filter in, and hallways feature smaller “breakout” and study rooms for groups working on assignments.
With additional amenities like bike workstations, a vending area, a quiet study room, and even a Learning Resource Center, which is considered a public library, you can order any book with the University System of Georgia and have it shipped to the UGA Gwinnett campus. UGA Gwinnett offers certificates and other training programs for public servants like Department of Transportation employees, firefighters, and law enforcement. In fact, as Sugarloaf CID staff toured the campus, members from Gwinnett County’s Department of Transportation were attending a training on-site. With a Certified Public Manager course and a Small Business Development Center, no matter what career sector you choose, you can find resources at this campus. UGA Gwinnett is a valuable community resource to help working individuals advance their knowledge and career aspirations—be sure to stop by and check out the beautiful campus to see all that it offers.
