And What it Means for Gwinnett’s Downtown
The Westin
The Westin Hotel being built by Concord Hospitality is still under construction. A topping-off ceremony took place on February 9. The hotel will feature 348 rooms, and a rooftop bar, and will connect to the expansion wing of the convention center when it opens in spring 2024.
Grand Reopening
The grand reopening of the Gas South Convention Center was held earlier this month, signaling a major milestone after several years of construction and many more years of planning.
The expansion of the convention center took place first, with the expanded convention space opening in November 2021. Construction crews then moved to the renovation of the existing space. The work, now complete, doubles the amount of convention space available.

These improvements will allow the Gas South District to host larger events. Plans are also in the works for a mixed-use entertainment district on the portion of the site that is currently surface parking.
All of this means exciting things are in store for Gwinnett’s Downtown, and we look forward to continuing our improvements to make sure the Sugarloaf CID is connected, safe, and attractive as our community grows and attracts more events and development.
