Welcome our New Project Manager, Daisy Mills

Meet Daisy Mills

Sugarloaf CID recently hired its second staff member, Daisy Mills, who serves as the Project Manager for the organization. As a native of the Atlanta metro area, Daisy is excited to be back in the area after a combined 10 years in Waco, Texas and most recently, the Triangle Area (Raleigh/Durham) in North Carolina. She grew up in the Dunwoody/Sandy Springs area and attended Wesleyan School in Peachtree Corners. Her immediate family also resides throughout the metro Atlanta area.

A self-described “people person,” her greatest passion is to connect with and uplift other people in her community and through her career; she feels grateful to be a recent addition to this community of people, including working for Sugarloaf CID, which invests in the people, businesses, and visitors of Gwinnett.

Highlights

  • •  Graduate of Baylor University; Magna Cum Laude; Bachelor of Social Work (BSW)
  • •  North Carolina State University; Master of Public Administration
  • •  Worked with over 18 different county departments in North Carolina
  • • Managed over 35 capital projects totaling over $500 million in lifetime project investment

After completing her BSW, Daisy interned at Compassion International, a global nonprofit. During her time in graduate school, she served as a Graduate Research Assistant for the federally-funded “Fire Chasers” project, which assessed wildfire responses across multiple jurisdictions in the western United States. Daisy conducted interviews with over 100 firefighters, wildland managers, and affected landowners.

After the MPA program, she worked for two counties in North Carolina as a Budget and Management Analyst: Guilford County, NC (Piedmont/Triad area) and Wake County (Triangle Area). In this job, she collaborated with 18 county departments, facilitated the transition to a new Enterprise Resource Management System, created training materials, conducted learning sessions, and oversaw 35 capital projects worth $500 million. She is a certified Lean Six Sigma Process Improvement Facilitator and enjoys streamlining complex processes for greater efficiency and improved outcomes.

Giving back to the community has always been an important tenet of Daisy’s value system. Over the past couple of years, she served as the Treasurer for a Durham-based home church and volunteered with a men’s post-incarceration community re-entry program, Jubilee Home, with the Religious Coalition for Non-Violent Durham. This work also included volunteering with the non-profit’s first community garden.

She looks forward to the new opportunities to connect with and engage the Gwinnett and Metro Atlanta communities through her career with Sugarloaf CID and through additional civic and volunteer opportunities. When you see her in the community, please make sure to say “hello,” so that she can get to know you!
